I have just ordered two antique silver and one antique gold Swedish Geocoin 2007. I’m planning to release one of them in my own cache which will hopefully be published this fall. The second coin is planned to be released in a cache in New Zealand to do a bit of travelling before going to Australia and then on to a cache near my home where I can pick it up and send it on a new mission. I will keep the third coin in my pocket until I decide what to do with it.

If you would like your geocoin or travelbug released in the south west of Sweden I’d love to help you out. The bug will be released somewhere in or near the city of Halmstad in a cache that fit your request. Halmstad is only about 1hr 20mins from Denmark by car and ferry and less than 4 hours of driving from the Norwegian border. Please use the Contact Form if you are interested.

Last saturday I decided to go find my very first cache. First I thought about getting the Marinstugan cache but when I got there the place was crowded with mugglers. So I got back on the bike and
started pedaling towards the Piren cache instead. The climb out on the pier can be quite dangerous if the weather is rough but this was a calm and sunny afternoon. Less than 10 minutes of walking on the rocks took me out on the tip of the pier and after about 3 minutes of searching I spotted the cache! Eureka! I’m hooked! If you are a Geocaching.com member you can track my progress at my profile page.

I got a really good deal on a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx GPS receiver and I just couldn’t resist it. I was actually shopping for a Sony GPS-CS1 to help geotag the photos I upload to Flickr but the more I read up on the subject, the more I realized it would be stupid not to buy a full featured GPSr for just little over twice the price of the Sony unit. After a couple of hours more reading and searching, I stumbled across this thing called geocaching which seems to be a really fun and geeky hobby. There are so many uses of the GPSr I don’t know how I could live without one before - geotagging photos, geocaching, helping me find my way on the road and in the “bush”, logging roadtrips and hikes and display them graphically using Google Earth, etc.
Two big annoyances though; the maps are horribly expensive, and, Garmin has not finished their MapSource software for Mac OS X yet so I have to fire up my Windows-box for certain tasks.

Got myself a job! I’m on my second week working for the Swedish Armed Forces as a factotum/caretaker at the students service center and lodging. So far I like it very much. I’ve signed a contract lasting until the end of the year but hopefully they will need me for longer than that.

I’ve switched Wordpress theme and along with that I made the whole site Wordpress-powered. Not everything is back to what it was but I will continue to spend some time every day to get the static info online. The URL to my Photo Gallery changed in the process from http://www.friman.org/gallery/flickr/ to the shorter http://www.friman.org/gallery/. This means that the 1.110 links from Google now are pointing to non existing pages. Maybe I put some kind of .htaccess-redirection in place, or I can just let the search engines index my site all over. I’m not getting that many hits anyway…
Also, I think my hosting provider is experiencing problems with my server right now. Occasionally, pages don’t load or give strange errors. I suspect there’s something wrong with the database connection. I guess I’ll have to contact them…

We have booked a flight with Sterling from Malaga to Copenhagen on the
4th of may. After seven months in Spain it feels quite good to go home
to Sweden in time for summer. Now I just have to get a job…

I have a Mac Mini on order which will be delivered before I return to Sweden. I will not switch 100% by getting rid of my Windows and Linux machines but I intend to do my everyday work, like organizing my photos and music, on the Mac. I really love the idea of being part of the Mac world and moving away from the mainstream windows-users. It feels a little bit like the good old days with the Amiga actually.
