I’ve switched Wordpress theme and along with that I made the whole site Wordpress-powered. Not everything is back to what it was but I will continue to spend some time every day to get the static info online. The URL to my Photo Gallery changed in the process from http://www.friman.org/gallery/flickr/ to the shorter http://www.friman.org/gallery/. This means that the 1.110 links from Google now are pointing to non existing pages. Maybe I put some kind of .htaccess-redirection in place, or I can just let the search engines index my site all over. I’m not getting that many hits anyway…

Also, I think my hosting provider is experiencing problems with my server right now. Occasionally, pages don’t load or give strange errors. I suspect there’s something wrong with the database connection. I guess I’ll have to contact them…

I’ve finally found a good solution to posting my pictures on this site. I tried f*Gallery but I was unable to customize it to my needs. Then I found the FAlbum plugin for WordPress and it worked with my site almost out of the box! I’ve already uploaded this months bandwidth allowance (2GB) to Flickr and I’ve started naming, tagging and commenting the pictures. Just check back every now and then and see my gallery grow.

I’ve signed up for a pro Flickr account and will use that service instead of running my own Coppermine or Gallery2 installation. The galleries will still be presented at this site using the f*Gallery plugin as well as on my Flickr page. I’m in the process of uploading, tagging and commenting my photos right now but it will take some time until the gallery is ready to come online.

I decided to ditch Coppermine in favour of Gallery 2 so all the photos are offline until I import them into the new system. I’ll probably start building a new theme that integrates nicely into the rest of the site before I put the photos back online.

It has finally happened! I got a site online after being down for several years. The reason for closing down my site back then was lack of time and content. Time is still a problem and I don’t have a clue what to do with my site. Blogging is fun but what is there to write about that hasn’t already been covered in thousands of other blogs? I’ll probably only post about major changes in my life and that shouldn’t be of interest to anyone else than my friends. Maybe I’ll use this blog as a travel journal instead of the one I have at Resdagboken.com, I don’t know.

One other section I will update from time to time is the photo gallery. Right now there’s mostly pictures from my last visit to Australia and New Zealand but more will be added. Comments are currently in Swedish but I’m thinking about translating them into English. After all, there’s a lot of people in the pictures that don’t speak Swedish who maybe would like to read the comments. Also, when I find the time I will integrate the gallery into the rest of the site.

I’ll keep on working on the static pages over the next couple of weeks.
